Born Slippy
Born Slippy by Mary Renner is a reproduction of a painting, the original size being 15" by 15", acrylic on canvas. The artist has chosen to sidestep the visual language of billboards and advertising in favour of painting, using colour washes to build formal colour relations while retaining a flatness of surface, it has semi transparent layers that unify the surface and create form.
"The title hints at the painting's kinship to music (second cousin, twice removed). While avoiding all narrative it is an evocative representation of people, emotional experience and memories of specific events" Mary Renner

January 2008 - Sharon Wilson
January Harker Herald
Think Las Vegas by Sharon Wilson is a temporary memorial to the closure of Swan Hunters shipbuilding plant at Wallsend. The Hammerhead cranes are about to be severed from their historic location and sold to the Indian shipbuilding company Bharati. As the industrial landscape is reshaped, impacts on the community are not only economic but also about loss and nostalgia.
This playful yet melancholic image attempts to deal with the post industrial present by looking at the edifices of urban regeneration and imagining new meanings. The iconic machinery is restaged as an impossible fairground attraction" Sharon Wilson
With help from audio artist Tim Hutchinson and photographer Derick Henderson.
Haker Herald will continue throughout 2008 with monthly posters from twelve more studio artists.
Look out for artworks from Mary Renner, Jock Mooney, Laura Lancaster, Rachel Lancaster, Mick Davies Sarah Wales, Carol McGuigan, Mike Collier, Karen Davies, Stephen Palmer, Lynda Dodsworth and Joe Woodhouse
